School Swimming Competition

Rathgormack N.S. - Healthy Eating Policy - Reviewed & Updated 20/10/2017
HEALTHY EATING POLICY
- All sugary drinks are banned. Water or milk are the only drinks allowed.
- Drink cartons are banned. We only allow recyclable plastic bottles for drinks.
- Each lunch should contain sandwiches, brown bread, crackers, yogurts and fruit/vegetables.
4. All chocolate bars including chocolate breakfast bars and no chocolate
products including spread are to be included in lunches.
- Chewing gum is strictly forbidden in school.
- Lollipops are forbidden.
Fruit and Vegetables
Little lunch is known as 'Fruit break'. Children must have fruit, vegetables, yogurts, or cheese for this break.
No sweets, bars, biscuits, crisps or popcorn will be allowed.
This rule will be strictly enforced.
We promote the inclusion of fruit and vegetables in children's lunchboxes.
This policy has been reviewed and updated by the Staff and Parents Association on 20th October, 2017.

15 October, 2017 - Further statement from the Department of Education and Skills – All Schools and Colleges Closed Tomorrow, Monday 16 October
In response to the imminent Storm Ophelia, the Department of Education and Skills is now publicly informing all schools, colleges and other education institutions that they are to remain closed tomorrow, Monday 16 October.
This decision has been made following discussions with members of the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning and in light of the advice from Met Éireann on this unprecedented storm.

5th & 6th Class Hike
A wonderful day was had by 5th & 6th Class who hiked up the Comeragh
mountains to the source of the River Tay and down to Ned Currans
cottage where they cooked up sausages on an open fire. Great fun was
had exploring the streams and lakes. John Deegan, our guide for the
day, was truly amazing and we wish him all the best on his hike up
Mount Kilmanajaro for Pieta House in July.

All Ireland Credit Union Quiz Final 2017
Well done to our team of Bridget, Eimear, Oscar and Adam who really
did us proud in the All Ireland Final of the Credit Union Quiz in
Dublin on Sunday 2nd April. For the second year running they competed
in competition B, under 13 along with 49 other teams and finished
joint 13th of the 50 teams, only a mere 5 points behind the winners.

Primary Schools Show Jumping in Ballyrafter
Lily represented our school in a showjumping competition recently.
After a clear round she came 3rd in a jump off and got a lovely

Junior Entrepreneur Programme - "Cardilicious Creations"
The boys and girls of 5th and 6th class in Rathgormack National School are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur this year.Their product is handmade cards and company name is "Cardilicious Creations". Cards can be ordered from the school through the pupils. Alternatively, you can call the school on 051-646377 or email info@rathgormackns.com. Cards cost 1.50 each, personalised cards are 2.00 euros each, a bundle of 10 cards is 7.50, 6 cards for 5.00 euros.
All proceeds will go towards school funds. All purchases will be greatly appreciated.
